How long will I have to wait for an appointment?
We aim to offer
you an appointment within three or four weeks.
How long
is each session?
Generally assessments are conducted in 60 – 90 minute
sessions and it may take more than one session to conduct a comprehensive assessment. Therapy sessions
vary between 45-60 minutes depending on the purpose of the appointment. Young children typically cope better with shorter appointments.
How
often will I need to come?
This is a difficult question to answer
as it will depend on many factors, such as the nature of the problem, and how the problem is
effecting your daily life. We will be happy to discuss this with you and make recommendations.
How long will therapy take?
It is never easy to predict treatment
length since many factors influence the success of therapy. Adults may need months of therapy following a stroke, whereas
children with mild speech problems may only need a few sessions. We can make some predictions about the amount
of therapy that may be required and we can devise a plan of treatment that is
flexible and tailored to your requirements.
Does it matter if I also have an NHS Speech and Language Therapist (SLT)?
No, this doesn’t matter. However, continuity of care is important so we will ask for your permission to contact
your NHS SLT.
Where
are you located?
We are
located in the Winterbourne Hospital, Dorchester or Hobbs Rehabilitation, Evercreech. These locations
are wheelchair accessible. If you can't get to us then we can come
to you. In some cases it may be more appropriate for us to visit
your home or school.
What do you charge for a consultation?
We have rates for initial assessments, treatment and travel. We would
be able to advice you of our fees when you contact us.
